The Aga Khan Health Service in Tanzania invites applications for the following positions to be based in Arusha, Tanzania.
•    Receive specimens for analysis and conduct tests as per the doctor`s request.
•    Analyze tests with maximum efficiency to produce quality results, carry out routine and specialized analysis of tests as per approved procedures of techniques.
•    Dispatch laboratory results and/or reports to appropriate users while maintaining accurate records of tests carried out and keeping correct data entry on report forms as well as batch registers.
•    Keep record of all tests carried out and enter/update data on report forms as well as batch registers.

•    Prepare timely and accurate test reports.
•    Re-check, confirm and discuss abnormal test results with the consultant prior to dispatch then proceed to communicate all urgent and abnormal laboratory results to users with minimum delay.

•    Monitor turnaround time of results and manage referral specimens to other hospitals.
•    Carry out routine and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment, trouble shoot broken down equipment, ensure routine and accurate calibration of the equipment.
•    Ensure maximum utilization and appropriate stocking of reagents and consumables, maintain stock records and test consuming and expense monitoring in the section.
•    Plan local & import orders with MMD in liaison with Asst. Lab. Manager & Consultant pathologist.
•    Develop and review all standard operating procedures pertaining to the section as well as generic procedures and assess new analytic techniques for adaptation.
•    Implement all quality control in the section while representing the section at QC and departmental level meetings.
•    Observe and comply with environmental health and occupational safety measures and ensure maintenance of high standards of hygiene in the work area.
•    Prepare duty Rota to ensure that the section has appropriate staff coverage at all times.
•    Participate in recruitment and regular appraisal of staff as well as identifying their training and development needs.
•    Develop job specifications for volunteers and attachments and monitor and develop reports of their work in the section.
•    Participate in both clinical and subject audits, investigate non-compliances, identifying corrective and preventative measures and prepare summaries and draft reports from audits for the section.
•    Participate in continuous medical education programmes of the department and regularly update the technologists with new and existing techniques.
•    Complete any other duties as may be assigned by the department manager or consultant.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

•    Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory technology from a recognized institute.
•    5 years experience working in a similar role.
•    Registered with a recognized laboratory Medical Board.
•    Kenya certification of secondary education minimum grade of C+
•    Bachelor of Science is an added advantage.
•    Customer service skills and leadership skills.
•    Ability to work in a team.
•    Attention to detail
•    Neat and tidy with organizational skills
•    Proficient in computers
